The Alexandra Interprovincial Bridge – Walking Tour

Learn about the history, builders and engineering significance of the Alexandra Bridge in the context of its national and world heritage setting. and its importance as a central element of a national and world heritage setting. Built from 1898 to 1900 for trains, streetcars, vehicles and pedestrians, it became a key transcontinental link and an icon of the capital. Its future and a potential replacement are a matter of intense current debate.

GUIDE: David Jeanes is a retired professional engineer and a former president of Heritage Ottawa with a strong interest in transportation. He organized a celebration of the bridge’s centenary in 2001.
