2018 is a big year for Richmond! Founded in 1818 as a British Military settlement, Richmond is the oldest community within the current City of Ottawa.
All year long there have been a vast array of events taking place to honour Richmond’s past, celebrate its vibrant present and look toward the future. The biggest celebration will take place this weekend, June 15-17 with a host of activities for all ages to enjoy. There will be fireworks, a parade, live music, historic trolley tours of Richmond, BBQs, musket firing with the 100th Regiment of Foot and much more!
Goulbourn Museum staff will be delivering programs in the Richmond Curling Clubstarting at noon on Saturday, June 16th and Sunday, June 17th. In addition to an exhibit of original tools and items the first settlers would have received, we will also have a display of original land deeds and a large copy of Belden’s Map of Goulbourn modified with current streets and names.
Take part in Measure Up & Settle In – a fun activity that puts visitors in the shoes of early settlers. Roll the dice to determine your lot and concession and face the challenges of your land! Each participant will leave with a land deed personalized onsite by a professional calligrapher.
Museum staff will be in regency costume, and soldiers from the 100th Regiment of Foot will be on hand to represent the military men who received the area’s land grants.
PLEASE NOTE: The Museum will be closed on Saturday, June 16 and Sunday, June 17 in order to participate in the Richmond 200 Celebration Weekend.
It’s going to be a great weekend! Hope to see you there!
