Ottawa School of Art unveils Illunaata

Ottawa Citizen

The first of four Illunaata murals, painted to mark Canada 150, was unveiled on Sunday.

Tunnganarniq, which means “fostering good spirits by being open, welcoming and inclusive,” was created by youth from Cape Dorset, Nunavut, and is now on display at 87 George St.

The Ottawa School of Art partnered with Ottawa 2017, Ottawa Community Housing and the Embassy of Imagination to create the series of murals.

Illunaata, which means “all together” in Inuktitut, is a celebration of Canadian imagery and community through the medium of paint.

The murals were painted from May to July.

The remaining three murals will be unveiled over the next two weeks, and the public is invited to attend at no cost.
