This year’s Heritage Day was a first, as we showcased the resiliency of the Capital’s heritage community virtually through the ceremony co-hosted with Mayor Watson; and our interactive quiz, and online exhibit.
The virtual ceremony featured: greetings from National Capital Region Town Crier Daniel Richer, words of wisdom from Pikwakanagan Chief Wendy Jocko, inspiring stories shared by our Members (Ottawa Jewish Archives, Museopark Vanier and Sons of Scotland Pipe Band), reflections from Mayor Jim Watson, and my own highlights of our many Members’ resiliency in pivoting through this pandemic paradigm shift.

We would also like to congratulate our Louise & Eric Moore Award for Outstanding Heritage Volunteerism 2021 recipient, Roger Thomas for his incredible dedication to the Heritage community. Roger has been a Member of the Huntley Township Historical Society (HTHS) since 1988, serving as a Director for 33 years and President for 4 years. His resiliency and dedication to volunteering was indispensable to HTHS as they transitioned to virtual meetings this year. We look forward to celebrating dedicated volunteers in our community each year at Heritage Day.
We will also continue to celebrate beyond Heritage Month with Resilency: Our Stories, a living archive of how our Members have continued to forge an important foundation for the Capital.
