Phyllis Pinnock was born in Jamaica, and worked at a weaving centre after leaving school. She moved to Canada in December of 1955, after seeing an advertisement in the local paper and applying through the ministry in Jamaica. In her interview, she discusses the qualifications necessary to be hired for the program, adjusting to living in a new country, and the changes Ottawa has undergone since she first moved to the city.
