On September 24, 1998, Nelson Mandela was joyously welcomed by Wendy’s students when he visited Ottawa’s Human Rights Monument on Elgin Street. Wendy’s students, colourful maple branches clutched in their arms, were thrilled to have been chosen as part of the Youth Honour Guard to greet the great leader.
