The Canada Aviation and Space Museum is thrilled to unveil its fifth-annual Kenneth Molson lecture, “Raising the Arrow – Reclaiming a Canadian Icon.”
Our guest speakers from the OEX Recovery Group will provide a detailed account of the search-and-recovery efforts for free-flight Avro Arrow models, which have rested on the bottom of Lake Ontario for more than 60 years.
The historic search for the Arrow began in July 2017, and the Canada Aviation and Space Museum has had the distinct honour of being part of the team from its inception. To date, OEX has discovered two models and numerous booster rockets which were also part of the Avro Arrow program. One of the two models and one booster rocket will be part of a new exhibition at the museum.
In addition to the OEX Recovery Group team, author David Waechter will share his father’s experience as an aeronautical engineer on the Avro Arrow.
The evening’s agenda includes discussion about the plans leading up to the search efforts, the search itself, and 2018 plans for the recovery and restoration of the models.
Our distinguished speakers include:
President and CEO, Osisko Mining Inc. and Expedition Leader, OEX Recovery Group
Vice-President of Engineering, Kraken Sonar Systems
Nancy E. Binnie
Senior Conservation Scientist (Chemist) / Heritage Interiors Conservation Services
Dr. David Waechter

The evening will be presided by Erin Gregory, Assistant Curator, Canada Aviation and Space Museum.
