Huntley Township Historical Society Monthly Meeting

February 20, 2018 - 19:30 - 20:30

The story of Elizabeth Shaw, who was born and buried in Huntley Township, will be told. In 1898 Elizabeth Shaw went to the Tsimshian village of Port Simpson, B.C. (now Lax Kw’alaams) and worked in the residential school there. She was extremely upset about what she saw there, wrote to her superiors about the abuse, but nothing was done about it.

At the meeting, Janice Guillemot will relate some details of the life of Elizabeth Shaw and the movie “The Awakening of Elizabeth Shaw” will be shown.

Everyone welcome to attend.

Refreshments available.
