Heritage in Reverse: Material Values, Waste and Deconstruction
October 26, 2018 - 19:00 - 21:00
One event on October 27, 2018 at 09:00
A Symposium at Carleton University in Ottawa.
Events start Friday Oct.26 at 7 pm with a public lecture Architecture in the Circular Economy: Reclaiming Building Resources by Dr. Mark Gorgolewski (Ryerson), author of Resource Salvation, The Architecture of Reuse.
The symposium on the Saturday Oct.27 will include: a walking tour of recent materials reuse examples in Ottawa that are charged with complex symbolism, and three paper sessions that bring together established practitioners, current scholars and emerging policy-makers to discuss:
- What can be learned from deconstruction sites about materials reuse opportunities in heritage work?
- What does recent research tell us about possibilities of connecting heritage conservation with waste?
- Which policies can guide difficult conservation decisions in the context of demolition and salvage?
The complete programme, registration and speaker information can be found here.
All events are free, but require pre-registration, since the symposium includes lunch, and there is limited space.
