An evening of interactive art, science, technology, food & drink at the Canada Science and Technology Museum.

Ottawa, Canada September 26, 2018: On Saturday, October 20th from 8PM until 12 midnight, prototypeD TEAM, (operators of MadeMill: the advanced Digital Media Lab and Makerspace at Cours Bayview Yards), and the Canada Science and Technology Museum – one of three museums under Ingenium – Canada’s Museums of Science and Innovation – invite you to GALATECHA: an evening of interactive art, technology, music, food, drink, and full access to the Museum’s existing exhibition spaces.

Come see one-night-only installations presented by innovative, local artists using the latest technology.

Guests are invited to immerse themselves in Canadian science, technology, and innovation through the Museum’s 11 interactive exhibitions which will be fully accessible to the public for the duration of the event. Local craft brew will be poured by Dominion City Brewery and food will be served by Meatings.

Futuristic beats will be spun on the dance floor by DJ Del Pilar, a queer, black Latina who got her start as a vocalist before falling in love with the decks. Stylistically diverse and always on point, her sound is guaranteed to make you move your feet!

The Full Time Groove will guide you through the funkiest of funk, soul, afrobeat, reggae, hip-hop, jazz, house, and groovy grooves. An eclectic mix of choice cuts – 99% vinyl, 100% good vibes!

You will be able to dance to the beats while interactive projection mapping turns the tunes and your moves into projected art pieces you control!

Galatecha will host a Virtual Reality Art Gallery. Attendees will be able to explore immersive, 3 dimensional works of art created by international and local artists, curated and created using Ottawa-built software, Masterpiece VR. You will also be able to step inside Masterpiece VR’s virtual studio and create 3D art of your own.

Animator, educator, and performance artist Mary Ellis of 2Sight Studios will enthral with a performance combining augmented reality, virtual reality, and motion capture technologies. Using Virtual Reality, guests will be able to engage directly with Mary as she steps into the shoes of an Artificial Intelligence creating its own body.

More sonic experiences will be provided by award-winning composer and instrument builder Jesse Stewart. Throughout the evening Jesse will animate the museum space with a series of one of kind audio activations and performances. The ever-popular Octamasher will make an appearance, too!

Inside the museum’s intimate anechoic chamber you will find art by Karine Guyon. She creates paintings using traditional mediums such as oil and beeswax combined with UV pigments which have the ability to store and emanate light for a powerful experience in light and colours. Step inside the soundless room and admire her creations that blend beauty and science.

Ottawa artist Tick Tock Tom will be displaying his scrap metal sculptures made from broken machines and discarded technology. Glass artist Jennifer Kelly will display examples innovative fine glass work created using the advanced manufacturing equipment at MadeMill. PhD Candidate Lee Jones will fascinate with an installation of calm technology, and Robot Missions will be showing off the robot they’ve created to help humanity: Bowie.

Step into a digital landscape in Joaquin Habacon’s Interactive Projection Room. Blur the line between the physical and digital by experiencing an immersive environment that challenges your senses and transforms reality using 3D sensors and audio.

At Galatecha, you can explore the cutting-edge intersection of art and technology. Come explore the Crazy Kitchen after dark and experience a collection of one-night-only experiences.
