Discovering the Civic Hospital Neighbourhood

September 15, 2019 - 14:00 - 15:30

The well-known 160 year-old stone house on Fuller Street was beautifully restored by the Morrison family. Not as prominent, but nonetheless architecturally significant are another 20 homes in the neighbourhood dating back at least a century. Some were built on Fairmont Avenue in the 1910s by scientists working at the then new Dominion Observatory off Carling Avenue, not far away.

The building of the Civic Hospital in the 1920s attracted more name architects to the area, such as David Younghusband, leaving a legacy of stunning residential homes.

GUIDE:  Andy Billingsley, chair of the History and Heritage Committee of the Civic Hospital Neighbourhood Association, has lived on Harmer Avenue South for almost fifty years.
