Cultural Landscapes: Uncovering the Stories of Our Cities and Regions

This Urbanism Lab event will explore the concept of cultural landscapes, by featuring the relationship of stories to landscapes and buildings, and will seek to tell about communities and cultural heritage themes in Canadian cities and regions.

Meet the Speakers

Sonia Vibert, chief of the Heritage Division of the Ville de Montréal, will talk to us about the Mont-Royal heritage site on the Île de Montréal, a symbolic and cultural landscape which includes some of the city’s largest green spaces in addition to built heritage.

Susan Schappert, heritage planner at the Town of Oakville, will discuss the conservation of cultural heritage landscape resources, including the lessons learned on the Oakville Harbour.

Camille Collinson, cultural resource management advisor at Parks Canada for the Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, the National Marine Conservation Area Reserve and the Haida Heritage Site, will share her experience in the cooperative management of cultural landscapes with the Haida Nation. She will focus on the SGang Gwaay UNESCO World Heritage Site.
