Canada Day at the Agriculture and Food Museum

It’s time to celebrate! The Canada Agriculture and Food Museum is highlighting Canada’s birthday with lots of exciting activities for the whole family. Our special demonstrations will offer visitors the chance to learn about Canadian agriculture and different Canadian breeds of livestock. There will be games, a craft, ice cream making and tasting, as well a chance to sample a Canadian classic: butter tarts!

Admission is free, however parking fees still apply.

Special Demonstrations – Meet the Canadian Breeds:
10 a.m. Meet the Chantecler Chicken Poultry House
11 a.m. Meet the Canadienne Cow Dairy Barn
12 p.m. Meet the Rideau Arcott Sheep Sheep Field
2 p.m. Meet the Lacombe Pig Small Animal Barn
3 p.m. Meet the Canadian Horse Horse Paddock
4 p.m. Afternoon Milking Dairy Barn

Ice Cream Making (10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.)
The young and young-at-heart can help make ice cream using an old-fashioned hand-crank freezer. The best part? Everyone who helps can taste the end result!

The Great Canadian Quiz (ongoing activity – closed from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.)
Visitors can spin the wheel and test their knowledge of Canadian trivia.

Kids’ Craft Station
Kids are invited to make a Canada Day-themed craft to take home.

Butter Tarts (ongoing activity – closed from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.)
Visitors are invited to the demonstration kitchen to sample this delicious treat. Learn about where the ingredients come from and interesting facts about the origins of this Canadian classic.

Historical Site Tour with Tea Time (12:30 p.m.)
Join us as we take a walk down memory lane and discover interesting historical facts about our beloved museum and its surrounding heritage buildings. The tour will end with a sample of tea, just like it was served all those years ago at the Experimental Farm’s annual garden parties.

Face Painting ($)
The Painted Pixie will be on site to work her magic!

Food Services ($)
The Hot Potato Company will be on site to offer food services.
