Join The Historical Society of Ottawa and Guest speaker Rick Henderson, the author of Walking in the Footsteps of Philemon Wright, and Capital Chronicles blog, and the great-great-great-great-grandson of Philemon Wright. Henderson paints an intimate portrait of the man and his family —  and of his dreams, struggles and successes as they carved a settlement from the Ottawa Valley wilderness over two centuries ago. His was a saga emblematic of the beginnings of Canada's industrial development.

Winnipeg was just one of 33 Canadian cities and towns to experience general strikes in 1919. So why no general strike in Ottawa? Ottawa came close.
