Launches of late!

It’s been a time for Launches of late!

On July 26th, I was proud to speak at the unveiling in Centretown of the last of four new ‘Illunaata’  murals supported by the Ottawa 2017 Arts, Culture and Heritage Investment Program (ACHIP) co-stewarded by our Council, the AOE Arts Council and Ottawa Arts Council.

Meaning “all together” in Inuktitut,  Illunaata  is a celebration of Canadian imagery and community through the medium of paint.  To mark this Sesquicentennial year, the Ottawa School of Art partnered with Ottawa Community Housing and the Embassy of Imagination to create a series of murals that are universally accessible; promote diversity, respect and positivity; and speak to OSA’s motto “Teaching Art to Everyone” by sharing art with everyone.  We hope this will lead to future such illuminating partnerships and works. Also attending this (and other ACHIP project launches) was our former Board member Hagit Hadaya, who served on the program Steering Committee and is proud too of the outcomes.  Check our calendar for more works to come, including those lead by our Members: new Capital History Kiosks from Workers History Museum/Carleton University and performances of ‘Dief’ at the Diefenbunker.

On August 2nd, we were pleased to welcome a-Board incoming Directors  David Dean, Kelly Eyamie,  Heather Leroux and  André Mersereau.  Read about their wealth of knowledge and experience here.  We would also like to thank outgoing Board Directors Joan Bard Miller, Emily Keyes and   Molly McCullough  for their valued contributions to the CHC.

And, after months of hard work lead by our dedicated Outreach Manager Kimberley Lai and Impeka co-founder Adam Beaulne, this week we’re very pleased to launch  our brand new website   www.capitalheritage.ca. In keeping with our new Vision, our primary goal for the site is to better connect visitors with Ottawa’s rich history and heritage.  And in particular, with our Members and their diverse heritage offerings. We’ll continue to update our content with helpful information (activities and events, articles and announcements,  opportunities and  resources)  of interest to the public, Ottawa’s heritage community and our Members.

An Ottawa Heritage Portal for All.

We welcome your feedback and content contributions!  Please e-mail us at [email protected] .
