Happy Heritage Month to All!

Please Join Us – for the Ottawa Heritage Day Ceremony and Heritage Showcase, February 20th 11:30 am – 2:00 pm at Ottawa City Hall – as Mayor Jim Watson, City Councillors, the Community Recreation and Cultural Programs Service and our Capital Heritage Connexion and Members embrace this year’s theme Heritage Stands the Test of Time.
Given the theme, it’s especially fitting that the recipients of the Mayor’s proclamation this year will be the cultural centres of Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation and Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation, who work resolutely on the preservation, interpretation and revitalization of Algonquin Anishinabe heritage and culture. These communities represent our region’s longest human heritage and created some of our continuing utilitarian and recreational treasures: the canoe, snowshoes and toboggan. We are proud to have the Cultural Centres as our Members.
It’s also fitting that the Mayor and City Archivist Paul Henry will be revealing the contents of and entombing an Ottawa 2017 Time Capsule, to be opened in 50 years, in 2067! And we’re delighted that selected photos from our own Ottawa 150 – Capital Time Capture initiative are included. Plan to visit our Heritage Showcase featuring over 40 exhibitors and learn about all of their rich heritage offerings and how you can discover, embrace and help them stand the test of time for generations to come
