On June 7th, Ottawa officially reached a population of 1 Million – an exciting milestone to add to our Ottawagraphy timeline!

We were also pleased to present and seek input on this portal from our Quebec and Ontario colleagues at the closing Digital Tour session and networking social at Maison des Auteurs on June 6th. And then attend the opening of the Invasion! – Canadians and the Battle of Normandy, 1944 and Highland Warriors exhibits at the Canadian War Museum on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of D-Day.

Thanks to all who joined us for our AGM June 18th. In addition to presenting past and current year highlights, we thanked outgoing Board members Monica Ferguson and Caroline Boutin, staff Kimberley MacDonald and Cassandra Marsillo, and project coordinator Nathalie Picard for their valuable contributions.

We also warmly welcomed new Board member Teigan Goldsmith (from the Diefenbunker), Program Manager Annie Lapointe (formerly with the CMA) and project coordinator Molly McGuire (Carleton University Humanities graduate).

We also paid tribute to outgoing colleagues who have contributed much to our Ottawa Cultural Alliance: Peter Honeywell, retiring from his long time Executive Director role at the Ottawa Arts Council and David Jeanes, stepping down from his term as President of Heritage Ottawa.

Kudos go to our gracious AGM hosts and private tour guides at the beautiful Laurier House National Historic Site. Please check out their and our other Members’ special activities planned for Canada Day.

We enjoyed an eventful evening at the Summer Solstice Festival including a feast presented by accomplished First Nation Chefs and special performances by viral sensation Emma Stevens singing her Mi’kmaq version of Blackbird and the indefatigable 3-time world champion hoop dancer Dallas Arcand.

It finally feels like Summer and our rich Cultural season has arrived. Enjoy Canada Day and more!
