Another Successful Heritage Day!

Thank you to All who participated in another successful Heritage Day on February 18th at City Hall!

It was a pleasure to again co-host the event with Mayor Jim Watson and interact with so many of our Member exhibitors in the Heritage Showcase -and, to see some of them captured and mentioned on CTV news at 6 and 11 pm!

It was moving to present a special new annual award to the inspiring Louise Demers-Moore in honour of she and her recently deceased husband Eric Moore’s outstanding heritage volunteerism.  We look forward to nominations next year for other deserving recipients.  Congratulations go to the Diefenbunker Museum, fitting recipients of the Mayor’s proclamation.  And, special thanks go to City of Ottawa Heritage Planner Cynthia Smith, our co-organizer for the event; to our amazing volunteers, including two Mentees from our Capital Heritage Mentorship Program; and especially to another former Mentee and Young Canada Works Intern, Natalie Hart, who has just been hired on as our new Program Manager!  We’re delighted to have her join the Capital Heritage Connexion and she looks forward to connecting with and supporting heritage stakeholders across the Capital.  We both look forward to hiring a new part-time Communications Coordinator to round out our dedicated team!

We also ‘Welcome A-Board’ our new Acting President, Jim Dean, Creative Director of Haunted Walks Inc. and one of our great Mentors.

Heritage Day is soon followed by an array of youth and family-friendly heritage activities during March Break. Check out our Calendar to find ones that interest you!
