Equity, Inclusion, Diversity and Decolonization Committee

The Capital Heritage Connexion (CHC) is seeking individuals with relevant lived experience or expertise interested in serving on the Equity, Inclusion, Diversity and Decolonization (EIDD) Committee.  The Committee was created in keeping with the CHC’s new Strategic Plan and the recommendations put forward by the City of Ottawa’s Equity and Inclusion Committee.

About the Capital Heritage Connexion:

Capital Heritage Connexion Patrimoine de la Capitale (CHC|CPC) is an umbrella organization serving organizations, businesses, and individuals who are interested in the history and heritage of the greater Capital area.  We play a leading role in supporting, developing, and sustaining the heritage sector and ensuring local residents have access to and engagement with our region’s history and heritage.

To achieve its objectives, CHC|CPC works closely with museums, archives, historical and genealogical societies, cultural communities, heritage buildings, built and natural sites, spaces and features, as well as a range of heritage scholars, supporters and advocates.  We act as an important liaison with all three levels of government and other cultural and economic umbrella groups.

Committee Positions Summary:

The EIDD Committee provides the CHC Board with advice and encourages an equity, inclusion, diversity and decolonization lens on different topics related to the organization. It provides information, support and tools to the CHC Board, CHC staff and Members to support their work in these fields.  This includes reconciliation and accessibility.

Ideal candidates are people who want to contribute to the Capital Heritage Connexion community, are comfortable working on a team and have a demonstrated interest in equity, inclusion, diversity or decolonization in cultural settings.  Candidates may choose to volunteer as members of the Committee or as advisors.

EIDD Committee Members and Advisors are encouraged to join the CHC. Fees will be waived.

To apply:

If you would like to join the EIDD Committee, please respond with a paragraph explaining why you are interested in joining.  You may reference relevant lived experience or expertise, and what you will bring to the Committee.  You are welcome to indicate any relevant dimensions of identity, including but not limited to age, gender identity, sexual orientation, Indigenous identity, members of visible minorities, disability or language.  (Self-identification is voluntary.  Personal information of applicants will be shared only with the EIDD secretariat.  Aggregated, anonymized personal information of members and advisors may be shared with the CHC Board of Directors and/or core funder, the City of Ottawa.)
